This movement has come under many names, Big Data being one of them, but right now “data driven” seems in vogue, though “information driven” seems more accurate.
Subjects and markets being traversed include: database, integration, platforms and products for information driven solution development such as Platform-as-a-Service and Data-as-a-Service, data governance, data protection, and the countless unique and creative ways businesses, governments, and individuals are using data/information to propel change – not just analytics.
“In my forty years in the IT industry, I have never seen a time like right now where not one but four major trends, known as “SMAC” or social, mobile, analytics, and cloud, are converging and intertwining like DNA. Data and information management offer the strands that connect all four trends. The result is massive change in the IT industry, but more importantly considerable change in business and human life.
